A team from the Jalukbari Outpost arrested the man identified as Fayajul Hazarika, also known as Denish on Sunday, August 18, around 10:30 PM.

Hazarika, 26, is from Kobasuba, Sipajhar, in Darrang district. He was caught wearing a police uniform.

During a search of his rented room at Six Mile, investigators recovered a pair of police uniforms, two toy pistols, a CBI identification card, and badges. Hazarika had been posing as a CBI officer under the name Denish Hazarika with the intent to extort money from individuals by promising them jobs.

In one instance, Hazarika took money from Afzal Hussain of Garigaon, promising to secure a job for his son. Hazarika has been involved in similar scams and has a history of using false identities to carry out fraud across the city for the past seven months.

Recently, he rented a room at Six Mile, where he falsely identified himself as an Assam Police personnel. A criminal case has been registered against him under Jalukbari Police Station Case No. 402/24 under sections 61(2), 319(2), 318(4), and 308(2) of the BNS.

Along with Hazarika, another accused, Gautam Saikia, also known as Ayan, was apprehended for his involvement. Saikia, from Pathaliban Panitola, Moran, in the Dibrugarh district, allowed Hazarika to use his vehicle, which has also been seized by the police. Legal proceedings are underway against both suspects.
