Congress FIR Against Assam BJP Chief For Alleged Threat Over Welfare Schemes

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has lodged a complaint with the police against Bhabesh Kalita, the President of the Assam unit of BJP, alleging that he has threatened to keep those not joining the BJP out of the purview of the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme for women.

The complaint was lodged at the Bhangagarh police station.

The complaint said that Kalita had issued the threat during a public meeting in Rangia, where he encouraged attendees to give a missed call to the number ‘88000002024’ to become BJP members, claiming that those who show their joining index would receive ₹1,250 under the 'Orunodoi' scheme.

The complainant alleges that Kalita's statements represent a misuse of public schemes by a ruling political party, misleading the general public and instilling fear among citizens in Assam. The FIR requests that action be taken under the relevant sections of the BNNS, emphasising the potential consequences of Kalita's comments on public trust and governance.
