Man Arrested With Gold & ₹1.11 Lakh Cash In Guwahati’s Maligaon

GUWAHATI: The police arrested a man in a theft case in Maligaon, Guwahati on late December 24 along with the loot.

A team from Pan Bazaar police station, Guwahati apprehended Jayanta Deka of Maligaon, who was caught carrying stolen items near Rail Gates No. 2 and 3. The police seized ₹1.11 lakh in cash, two gold coins weighing 12 gram, and a mobile phone from his possession.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the theft and provided information about stolen gold items hidden near Ushamati close to Gate No. 3. Acting on this input, the police team conducted a recovery operation at the indicated location. The operation led to the recovery of four pairs of gold earrings, a gold ear top, and other stolen valuables.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to ascertain the extent of the theft.
