GUWAHATI: Assam Police arrested a man from Kakopathar in Tinsukia district on charges of extortion carried out in the name of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on December 2.

The accused, identified as Mintu Moran, allegedly demanded ₹50,000 from a local businessman, claiming the money was needed for medical expenses of a ULFA-I member.
Acting on the businessman’s complaint, Pengeri police conducted a raid in the Tongona area and apprehended Mintu Moran, a resident of Kakopathar. However, another suspect, identified as Surajit Moran, alias Kalia, from Nalani village in Pengeri, remains at large. Police are working to locate the second suspect.
