GUWAHATI: A 55-year-old man has been arrested by the Satgaon police for allegedly sexually abusing his seven-year-old granddaughter over time.

The accused, identified as Tofail Ali Shaikh, allegedly committed the crime while the young girl and her brother were staying with him.
Talking to GPlus, an official from Satgaon police station said, "The children's parents had gone to Barpeta for personal reasons, leaving them in the care of their grandfather."
According to Satgaon police authorities, the abuse had been ongoing for three days. The girl, frightened and unsure, finally opened up to neighbours about what was happening. Locals grew suspicious and decided to monitor the situation. On Thursday night, around 9:30 PM, they witnessed the man abusing the child, after which they filed FIR. The suspect is currently in judicial custody and further legal proccedings are underway.
