Major Fire Breaks Out At Mahakumbh In Prayagraj, No Casualties Reported

GUWAHATI: A massive fire erupted in Sector 19 of the Mahakumbh Tent City in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.  

According to officials, the fire was triggered by an explosion of cooking cylinders in the tent area. The blaze engulfed 18 tents, and 15 fire tenders were deployed to contain the flames. Kumbh Mela Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma confirmed that the situation was brought under control swiftly.

Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar stated that the fire broke out around 4:30 PM in the Gita Press tent. “There is no information about any casualties, and the situation is under control,” he said.  

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognizance of the incident. He visited the site, inspected the damage, and interacted with officials and firefighting teams to assess the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached out to CM Adityanath to inquire about the fire and expressed his concern.  

State Minister AK Sharma expressed relief over the absence of casualties. “The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. I thank Ma Ganga, Triveni, and Lete Hanuman ji for ensuring no loss of life. Our police and NDRF teams are at the site,” he said.  

The Samajwadi Party expressed grief over the incident in a post on social media, urging the government to expedite relief and rescue operations.  

The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26, has already witnessed over 7 crore devotees and saints taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. The spiritual event draws pilgrims from across India and around the world, creating an atmosphere of devotion and faith at the sacred confluence.
