GUWAHATI: The Mumbai Police revealed that the individual arrested in connection with the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is believed to be a Bangladeshi national during a media briefing on Sunday. Authorities noted that items seized from the suspect's possession suggest this possible link.

The attacker, who had entered India under a different identity, was identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, aged 30. Mumbai Police confirmed that he had adopted the name "Vijay Das" upon entering the country. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, the accused had planned to rob the actor's residence.
Gedam explained that the suspect, presumed to be from Bangladesh, entered India illegally and arrived in Mumbai around 5-6 months ago. After staying in the city for a few days, he settled in a nearby area, where he worked for a housekeeping agency.
The attack occurred on January 16 at 2 AM when Shehzad allegedly attempted to rob Saif Ali Khan’s home. An FIR was filed, and the suspect was apprehended. He will be presented in court, where the police will seek his custody for further investigation. Gedam mentioned that the authorities have strong suspicions about his Bangladeshi origins.
