Lovlina Borgohain, Ankushita Boro Win Gold At 36th National Games

GUWAHATI: Assam experiences a proud moment at the 36th National Games 2022 after boxers from Assam, Lovlina Borgohain and Ankushita Boro secured gold medals for the state today, October 12, in Gujarat.

Olympic Bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain beat former World Championships Silver medallist Saweety Boora with a score of 5-0 and secured the Women’s 75kg gold medal at the boxing arena.

This was Lovlina’s first medal after switching to the Middle Weight category. She would also be making her international debut at the upcoming Asian Championships in Amman.

Ankushita Boro also won the Women’s Welterweight gold after a win against Manipur’s Alena Thounaojam in the 66kg Welterweight category.

At the Mahatma Mandir on Wednesday, October 12, Ankushita set up an exciting battle of supremacy against Thounaojam for the 66kg Welterweight category and clinched the gold medal.

Ankushita previously won gold medals at the 2017 AIBA Youth Women's World Boxing Championships and in the first North East Olympic Games 2018, Imphal.
