Loot from Assam’s Sidheswar Devalaya partially recovered

GUWAHATI: Sualkuchi police recovered some of the stolen items which were looted from the centuries-old Sidheswar Devalaya in Sualkuchi of Kamrup district.

Based on the confession by one Phatik Kalita, a family member of the temple's guard, the items were recovered from the backyard of the accused Kalita's residence.

The accused has been sent to three days of police custody. However, the two main idols of the temple, idols of Vishnu and Durga are yet to be found.

It is to be mentioned that even the main Idol of Ugratara Temple Stolen in Guwahati was stolen from the Uzan Bazar area.

The idol has been worshipped in the temple since 1044 AD and the temple is revered as one of the 52 holy places of pilgrimage for the Hindus in the country but the city police are yet to trace the stolen items.
