GUWAHATI: With a view to create awareness among women about the workings of the EVM and VVPAT machines, Hailakandi district administration undertook an awareness drive in the district on Tuesday.

The women of remote and hilly areas of the district were made to understand the workings of the EVM and VVPAT machines to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The polling in Assam will take place in three phases on April 11, 18 and 23.

The officials were accompanied by members of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) and they went from door to door and also distributed sanitary napkins to the women. This was done to create sensitisation about health and hygiene.

With the demonstrations of the usage of EVM and VVPAT machines, the women of the district were also urged to go out and vote on the day of the polls.
