Lok Sabha Elections: With Himanta Biswa not Contesting New Names Emerge for Tezpur

GUWAHATI: After news came up of NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma not contesting this Lok Sabha elections new names from the BJP have come up for the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Among the frontrunners are former Tezpur MLA Rajen Borthakur, Rangapara MLA and minister, Pallablochan Das and Amtron Vice Chairman Ritubaran Sarmah. 

Rajen Barthakur and Pallab Lochan Das joined the BJP along with Himanta Biswa Sarma from Congress. 

The lesser known of the three, Ritubaran Sarmah has been an RSS worker for past 40 years and held many party posts like former state spokesperson and twice BJP president Sonitpur district. He is at present Mahanagar Prabhari (in-charge) Guwahati. He is also the Vice Chairman, AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited). 

Sarmah is from the Nepali community which has deciding votes in the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency that has seen three Nepali MPs (Five Terms) since 1991.
