Lok Sabha Elections: MP RP Sarmah Resigns from Bharatiya Janata Party

GUWAHATI: Ahead of the Lok Sabha Election senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sitting MP from Tezpur constituency has resigned from the party.

Taking to his social media handle, the MP said, “Resigning from the primary membership of the BJP right now after serving the RSS/VHP for 15 years and the BJP for 29 years. I felt greatly insulted when my name, a sitting MP and the President of Assam Gorkha Sammelan, did not find place in panel sent up by the state BJP committee. Friends and the people of Assam and my constituency, I will continue to serve you till the end of my life. I will always lovingly nurture your support and love for me for such a long time. I love you from the core of my heart.”

As per source, Sarmah has also informed that he has called for a press meet at 12 noon today in his residence at New Delhi to formally announce his resignment.

It is to be mentioned that R P Sharma has resigned for the second time from BJP party.

Earlier, Ram Prasad Sarmah had threatened to quit BJP if the ticket to contest from Tezpur constituency is offered to Assam Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance.
