Liquor ban in parts of Assam for Meghalaya Polls

Under Section 135 (C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and under Rule 326 (A) of Assam Excise Rules 2016 in respect of holding election to Assembly in the state of Meghalaya, the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi has prohibited the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons and has banned on sale of liquor, distribution of spirits, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature, at hotel, public or private places, within the adjoining or bordering areas with Meghalaya, from 25th Feb (4 PM) to 27th Feb (4 PM), and 3rd March 2018.

The ban has been called in connection with the ensuing General Election to Assembly in the state of Meghalaya, including the day of counting of votes.

All bonded warehouse, IMFL shops including clubs at hotels and country spirit shops will remain closed on the announced dry days. During this period, the storage of liquor by individuals shall also be curtained.

The Excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced.
