LGBI Airport In Guwahati Will Become 2nd Busiest Airport Of India: CM Sonowal

GUWAHATI: With the new Integrated Terminal Building at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati will become 2nd busiest airport of India once operational.

Assam Chief Minister Sabananda Sonowal, on Twitter wrote, "With the soon to be opened new Integrated Terminal Building, LGBI Airport in Guwahati will become 2nd busiest airport of India.In this regard, the CM also directed officials to focus on generating employment opportunities in the aviation sector."

According to data available with the AAI, the growth in Air traffic at the gateway of North East India, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati is growing at exponential rate and it has crossed over 6 million passenger capacity in the last Financial Year (FY) 2018-19.

The LGBI Airport has witnessed annual traffic of over 27% in 2018-19 with a total footfall of 60,18,054 passenger and 55,066 aircraft movements in the same period.

The Airport is poised to witness more traffic in coming days as Guwahati Airport is now opened for 24x7 operations from April 2019 onward.

Currently Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) is the 8th Busiest Airport in India.
