Larger Vessels Suspended In Majuli Due To Receding Water Levels, Ferry Services To Continue

GUWAHATI: Larger vessels have been suspended between Nimati Ghat and Kamalbari Ghat across the Brahmaputra river in Majuli, Assam, the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department informed on January 4.

Talking to GPlus, Ashim Barua, Executive Engineer Of Inland Water Transport (IWT) Majuli Subdivision said, “The ferry services have not been suspended, only the bigger vessels have been suspended due to the receding water levels.”

According to reports from the IWT, the vessels require at least 5 feet of water is necessary for them to sail but at the moment it is only 3.5 feet. Further details await on the resuming of the vessels plying in Majuli.
