GUWAHATI: A fresh landslide occurred this morning at around 8 AM in the Sonapur tunnel in the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, resulting in the blockage of National Highway 6 and halting vehicular movement, as per reports.
Promptly responding to the information received, authorities swiftly reached the site to initiate debris removal operations. Currently, the road remains impassable as efforts are underway to clear the obstructed passage, reports stated.
Simultaneously, rains have battered the entire Northeastern region, exacerbating the situation with reports of multiple landslides emerging.
The East Jaintia Hills Police, in a Facebook post later, shared the progress made to clear up the debris on the highway caused by the landslide stating that shortly traffic would be able to pass.
“The work to clear the debris from today's Mudslide is going on and it is expected that the Tunnel should be open for Traffic shortly,” read the post.
