On January 21, the mother of the patient, who had been admitted to GMCH’s Superspeciality Hospital since January 13 for kidney treatment, filed a complaint at Bhangagarh Police Station. She accused Abdul Rashid, a cleaner employed at the hospital, of inappropriate behaviour towards her daughter. Following the complaint, police registered the case (No. 18/25) at Bhangagarh Poilice Station under section 65 of BNS read with section 4 of Pocso Act.
According to the police investigation, the patient had met Abdul Rashid during an earlier hospital visit, and the two reportedly exchanged phone numbers. They continued their communication, including some inappropriate conversations. CCTV footage from the night of January 19 shows that despite being off duty, Abdul Rashid entered the ladies' toilet at around 10:30 PM. Shortly after, the patient was seen entering the same toilet, accompanied by another cleaner, Karabi Ray. The footage shows all three leaving the toilet a few minutes later.
Both Abdul Rashid and Karabi Ray have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody.
This case has raised concerns about patient safety within the hospital, with many questioning the level of monitoring and the behaviour of hospital staff. GMCH authorities have assured they are cooperating fully with the investigation and are reviewing hospital security measures.
The investigation is ongoing, with police examining all available evidence, including phone records and CCTV footage. Further updates will follow as the inquiry progresses.
