Kin of Deceased from Hooch Incident to Receive Rs. 2 Lakh: CM Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal has announced that compensation of INR 2 lakh will be given to the kin of everyone who died after consuming spurious liquor and INR 50,000 to those who are undergoing treatment. 

While saying that the incident was unfortunate, Sonowal has ordered an inquiry into the tragedy that occurred on February 22 and has directed Upper Assam Division Commissioner, Julie Sonowal to inquire the matter. 

A four-member inquiry team which will be headed by Additional Commissioner of the Excise Department, Sanjib Medhi will submit a report within three days. 

Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has also informed that the Director of Medical Education, Anup Barman will supervise the patients’ treatment. 

At current count, 125 people have lost their lives because of the hooch incident and the number is continuing to rise.
