GUWAHATI: Assam Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Information Technology, Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta inaugurated Khel Maharan, one of the largest sporting events in the state, at Dr. T. Ao Stadium in Kaliabor on November 27.
The sports competition, spanning the next three consecutive days, will witness the enthusiastic participation of more than 3,000 athletes from 18 Gram Panchayats (GPs) of Kaliabor.
Expressing his delight, Minister Mahanta highlighted the transformative nature of Khel Maharan under Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which has evolved into a Jan Andolan (people's movement). The minister extended his best wishes to all the athletes partaking in the competition.
Mahanta also announced that two emerging talents from the region, Joshila Momin and Drishtipriya Deka, have been selected to represent the Under-17 and Under-13 state women football teams.
The inaugural ceremony, held today, was also attended by District Commissioner of Nagaon, SDO (Civil) Kaliabor, Chairperson Nagaon Zila Parishad, District Sports Officer, former and present sportspersons, sports association officials, and avid sports enthusiasts.
