GUWAHATI: Karbi Anglong achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest group of individuals walking together on stilts. The feat took place during the Karbi Youth Festival, where a total of 721 participants successfully walked on stilts, surpassing the previous record of 250.
CM Sarma took to the microblogging platform X to share the achievement, stating, "Many congratulations to the people of Karbi Anglong for creating a new Guinness World Record. 721 people walked together on stilts, breaking the previous record of 250."
The official adjudicator of the Guinness Book of World Records verified the record, and a certificate was presented to Tuliram Ronghang, the chief executive member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The event was organized as part of the 50th Karbi Youth Festival in Diphu, in collaboration with the Karbi Cultural Society.
The stilt walking performance, spanning a 2 km line, lasted for 10 minutes. This achievement also highlighted the traditional Karbi sport of Kengdongdang, which involves a race on bamboo stilts.
