GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has denied the publication of a new delimitation map of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) wards and issued a statement clarifying that the map published on January 25, 2022, is to be considered the final one.

A new so-called 'updated'  map of the delimitation of wards under the GMC was recently circulated, creating a stir. This resulted in news reports where it was alleged that the sudden change in the area of wards just weeks before the GMC election has confused the electorate.

However, the Kamrup (M) Administration District Administration, as well as the District Election Office, had clarified that "no such abrupt map of Guwahati Municipal Corporation or any ward for the purpose has been published by the Kamrup Metropolitan District Election Office."

The statement read that during the delimitation process of GMC, the area of old wards and polling stations of the voters were correspondingly and consequently changed. The Electoral Roll, as well as the Polling Stations, were prepared as per the new delimitation map published vide Gazette Notification No. GCL/02/2022/153 dated January 24, 2022, and was available for public scrutiny and submission of claims and objections from February 11, 2022, to February 18, 2022.

"This new map as claimed in the aforementioned news is baseless," it added.

The Administration has asked voters to adhere to the maps and electoral rolls as published earlier by the appropriate Government order.

The final delimitation map of the 6 wards published on January 25, 2022, can be viewed online at https://gmc.assam.gov.in/latest.
