Kamrup Admin Issues Guidelines For Diwali; Only Two Hours To Burst Crackers

GUWAHATI: Ahead of Diwali, Kamrup DC Biswajit Pegu has issued an order based on Supreme Court guidelines to celebrate Diwali.

The order aims to ensure safety and reduce noise and air pollution.

According to the order, bursting of crackers will only be allowed from 8pm to 10pm. The order stated that firecrackers under the decibel limit of 125db will be allowed.

Bursting of crackers and fireworks on public roads, market place, inside and near hospitals, Mosques and other places of public congregation is also prohibited.

In October last year, in an attempt to rein in the pollution caused by crackers, the Supreme Court had permitted the bursting of firecrackers between 8 pm and 10 pm for Deepavali across the country. The order by the SC was based on a PIL which sought a ban on the manufacture and sale of firecrackers in the country.
