GUWAHATI: June 21, which marks the beginning of summer solstice, is the longest day of the year.

Interestingly, the day coincides with International Day of Yoga and World Music Day.

It should be mentioned that in the Northern Hemisphere, the day of the summer solstice is the longest day of the year (the day with the most daylight and the shortest night) and occurs every year between June 20 and June 22.

The sun will rise at 4.43am and set at 9.21pm, meaning there will be 16 hours and 38 minutes of daylight in the UK.

On the winter solstice in December, the opposite happens with the longest night of the year and the least amount of daylight.

In the southern hemisphere, people will be marking their shortest day of the year tomorrow.

Countries in the southern hemisphere include Australia, South Africa and Brazil.
