GUWAHATI: Commuters were once again caught in an excruciating traffic snarl between Jorabat and Khanapara on Saturday, April 5, as a 15-minute drive stretched to over an hour for many. With no clear signage or explanation at hand, frustration mounted among daily travellers and emergency services alike.

Speaking to GPlus, a local resident described the situation as “exhausting,” pointing to the seemingly never-ending congestion in the Jorabat-Khanapara stretch. “Insane traffic from Jorabat to Khanapara. No one knows the exact reason anymore,” the resident added.
The chokehold on the route severely impacted not just private vehicles but also ambulances and service trucks, which found themselves delayed for no apparent immediate reason.
Despite widespread confusion, a traffic official from the Jorabat outpost offered a partial explanation. “The reason behind the traffic is due to the ongoing road construction in Khanapara. Until it is over, the issue will continue,” the official told GPlus.
However, the lack of public communication from relevant authorities and absence of proper diversions or traffic management measures has only added to the chaos. The route, already known for its bottlenecks, has seen worsening delays in recent days, especially during peak hours.
As Guwahati expands and vehicular load increases, the need for better traffic planning and real-time updates remains critical. Until then, citizens and emergency services alike are left braving long hours in gridlocks without a clear end in sight.
