JICA Assisted Guwahati Water Supply Partially Opens After A Decade

 

GUWAHATI: A portion of the Guwahati Water Supply Project, assisted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was partially commissioned to supply drinking water to certain areas and is projected to help the city's residents, The water treatment facility at Kharghuli, Guwahati, hosted the partial commissioning.

The Water Supply Project's partial commissioning was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The project, which was started in 2009 with the goal of providing clean water to Guwahati inhabitants, is anticipated to be fully operational by March 2024 and has the capacity to offer 1.25 lakh families with a 24-hour supply of running water in some areas of the city.

Notably, the partial commissioning would facilitate Guwahati Jal Board to provide water supply to approximately 13,000 households in various localities of the city. 

Notably, the partial commissioning will make it possible for Guwahati Jal Board to supply water to over 13,000 homes in different areas of the city.

Apart from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Urban and Housing Minister Ashok Singhal, other dignitaries and guests who attended the ceremonial partial commissioning event included Commissioner & Secretary to Government of Assam Kavitha Padmanabhan, Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mrigen Sarania, and Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of Japanese Embassy in India Kunihiko Kawazu.
