Jewellery Shop Burglary Case Busted In Assam’s Sonitpur, Caught Melting Stolen Gold

GUWAHATI: A police team from Basistha has unearthed a major link in a recent burglary case, revealing a jewellery shop in Thelamara, Sonitpur, as a hub for melting and selling stolen gold.

Following the confession of burglars already in custody, a raid was carried out at MBT Jewellery, located at Thelamara Centre. The operation led to the arrest of Mithun Dey (35) of Thelamara, identified as a seasoned receiver and melter of stolen property.

The raid resulted in the recovery of a substantial haul of stolen valuables from the premises, including 16.820 gram of melted gold, 3 gold bangles, 1 gold ring, 1 gold nose ring, a pair of gold earrings, 25 pairs of City Gold bangles and 6 City Gold chains, 124.710 gram of silver chain, 7 pairs of silver anklets (payals), 1 silver necklace, 1 foot ring pair, 1 silver ring, ₹1,820 in cash, 1 mobile phone, and melting tools used for processing the stolen items.


The accused has confessed to regularly dealing in stolen goods. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him as investigations continue to identify other links in the stolen goods network.
