Jamuna Boro Gives India Flying Start At Women’s World Boxing Championships

GUWAHATI: Assam’s Jamuna Boro gave India a flying start in the Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019 in Russia by advancing to the pre-quarterfinals with an effortless win on Friday.

Jamuna competed in the 54kg Bantam category and defeated Mongolia’s Erdenedalai Michidmaa by 5-0.

The 22-year-old will now face off against Algeria's fifth-seeded Ouidad Sfouh in the pre-quarterfinals.

Jamuna has been bringing laurels to Assam by winning various competitions.

Earlier, In July, Jamuna defeated Italy’s veteran boxer Giulia Lamagna 5-0 at the 23rd President’s Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

Apart from Jamuna, the other Indian boxers to participate in the Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019 include Manju Rani, Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Manju Bamboriya, Lovlina Borgohain, Nandini, Kavita Chahal and Saweety Boora.

The ongoing edition features 224 boxers from 57 countries.
