GUWAHATI: The inland water transport department is now planning to announce safety instructions for ferry passengers, in order to ensure their safety.
“We are planning to begin announcement and demonstration of safety instructions on ferries on similar lines as it is done in aeroplanes,” informed inland water transport director Dhruba Jyoti Das.
He added that they have noticed that the passengers are reluctant to wear life jackets and thus took the decision to make them aware about the importance of wearing life jackets while travelling in ferries.

It is to be mentioned that after a motorised boat capsized in the Brahmaputra in September last year, the state government had made it mandatory for each passenger to wear life jackets.
