GUWAHATI: The traffic situation in Guwahati continues to worsen, with several key areas reporting severe congestion in recent days. Daily commuters have seen their travel times increase dramatically, thereby getting to destinations on time a rarity for many.

Areas like Maligaon, Fancy Bazar, AT Road, Bishnupur, Rukminigaon, and parts of Six Mile remain heavily congested, primarily due to ongoing flyover construction and deteriorating road conditions. One of the most affected routes at the moment is between Paltan Bazar and Lokhra, where the average commute time now stretches to 1.5 hours, a considerable jump from earlier.

Rukminigaon, in particular, has turned into a traffic hotspot due to the flyover construction in the area, resulting in near-standstill conditions. “It took me around 40 minutes to cross a stretch that is barely 1 kilometre,” a frustrated commuter told G Plus. “It is ridiculous.”

An official from the Guwahati Traffic Police has also acknowledged the ongoing traffic issues, but assured residents that improvements are expected once the flyover construction is completed. “We understand the delays, especially around Rukminigaon. But once the work is done, the traffic situation will improve,” the official told G Plus, adding that efforts are being made to manage the current congestion.

With no immediate solution in sight, commuters across Guwahati continue to endure long delays as construction work progresses for the moment.
