The impact is most visible in Guwahati, where farmers are fetching an unprecedented ₹1,500 to ₹1,600 for a 20 kg crate of tomatoes in wholesale markets. In retail, this translates to a daunting ₹100 to ₹120 per kilogram—a steep increase has hit household expenses.

Talking to Gplus, a vegetable seller from Ganeshguri said, “The price of tomatoes has surged to ₹100. It’s been very difficult for us to buy tomatoes from wholesalers.”

The consequences of these unseasonal weather patterns are now being felt in kitchens in the city. The people are facing difficulties due to the continuous rise in the price of commodities.

Speaking to Gplus, a resident in Beltola said, "The price of every other things are increasing, this time its tomatoes- it has increased to ₹100 to ₹120 per kg. We are facing difficulties by the price hike of the vegetables."
