IPL Match Between KKR & LSG Likely To Be Relocated From Kolkata To Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from Kolkata to Guwahati. The fixture, originally scheduled for April 6 at Eden Gardens, was moved after Kolkata Police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they would be unable to provide sufficient security due to Ram Navami celebrations on the same day.

Following a formal request from the Bengal Cricket Board citing security limitations, cricket authorities approved the venue change. This is the second year in a row that religious festivities have impacted IPL scheduling in Kolkata. In the previous season, KKR’s home match against Rajasthan Royals was rescheduled by a day for similar security concerns, leading to additional fixture adjustments.

Guwahati, which was already slated to host two Rajasthan Royals games on March 26 and 30, will now also accommodate the KKR vs. LSG clash. The shift makes the northeastern city a more prominent IPL venue as part of the expanded 2025 season, which will feature 74 matches across 13 locations in India.

Meanwhile, defending champions KKR are set to kick off their title defence against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens this Saturday. The season opener, which includes an opening ceremony, could face possible weather disruptions, with rain expected in the forecast.
