GUWAHATI: The fans of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) of Guwahati fans were again disappointed by the performance of local lad Riyan Parag.
Parag, who has been a part of the Rajasthan Royals since 2019, has had a disappointing show with the bat so far.
IPL matches are being held in Guwahati for the first time this year, and it was expected that Parag would put up a good show with the bat in front of his home crowd. However, it was not to be the case.
The local lad could score only 7 (11) runs for RR in their second match in Guwahati and third match of the season.
In the first match in Guwahati, played on April 5 against Punjab Kings, Parag scored 20 (12) runs with one four and two sixes, giving the fans something to cheer for. But how he got out left the Guwahati crowd dejected. RR lost the match by 5 runs.
"Riyan Parag is a rare talent, and we all admit it. But his repeated failures are not doing any good for him. Since IPL is held for the first time in Guwahati this year, I was hoping that Parag would play a good inning. I guess I was expecting too much," said Ankit Deka, a die-hard Royals fan.
"Parag's selection at the IPL gave us a ray of hope of seeing a player from Assam finally donning the Indian Blue. But with performances like these, he is making his chances difficult himself. I hope he plays good cricket in the remaining season matches," Deka added.
Riyan Parag has played 50 matches so far in his IPL career and scored 556 runs, averaging 16.35. He has also slammed two half-centuries, with his highest IPL score being 56 not out.
Riyan Parag has hit 42 fours and 24 sixes in his IPL career. He has also scalped four wickets, with 1/10 being his best bowling figure.
