GUWAHATI: An inmate lodged at Jalukbari Police Station in Guwahati allegedly committed suicide inside the cell on Monday at around 7:30 AM.
The deceased identified as Jehirul Islam, was arrested on charges of theft from Jalukbari.
According to media reports Islam was found hanging in his prison cell.
An official from Jalukbari Police Station said, "The incident took place in the morning. We are investigating the case."
The body has been sent for post mortem examination. Further details awaited.
