India successfully tests Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile

GUWAHATI: In his address to the nation on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed that India has successfully tested an indigenously-developed Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile.

He added that the ASAT successfully targeted a live satellite on a low earth orbit. The PM called the operation- ‘Mission Shakti’ and said that it was a highly complex one, conducted at extremely high speed with remarkable precision.

“Today, we have enough satellites that are contributing in various segments such as agriculture, disaster management, communication, weather, navigation,” he informed. 

The Prime Minister termed it as an important step towards securing India's safety, economic growth and technological advancement.

He added that India is only the fourth country to acquire such a specialised and modern capability.
