GUWAHATI: In a move to bolster internal security, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to annul the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, emphasised the government's stance on securing borders in a post on 'X'. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken this step to uphold internal security and “to maintain the demographic structure of India’s North Eastern States bordering Myanmar.”

The Free Movement Regime (FMR) is set to be scrapped, with the Ministry of External Affairs engaged in the process. In light of these developments, the MHA has recommended the immediate suspension of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).
