India Ranks 7th Among Countries Worst Affected by COVID-19

GUWAHATI: As Coronavirus positive cases in India move closer to the 2 lakh mark with 1,98,706 positive coronavirus cases across the country, India has jumped to the 7th rank among all nations worst affected by the pandemic. 

Of all these cases, 97,581 are active cases and 5,598 deaths have been recorded so far, as per latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The nation still hasn’t seen its peak as sporadic outbreaks are predicted to happen sometime in the month of July.

The death toll in the national capital stands at 523 with the total number of cases at 20,834.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected with over 70,000 cases; the state has recorded 2,362 deaths which is the highest reported among all states.

Cases continue to rise in the southern state of Tamil Nadu with 23,495 cases and the number of positive cases in Gujarat stands at 17,200 with 1,063 deaths so far.

In the northeastern state of Assam, the total number of persons affected by the dreaded virus has reached 1,485. The state has 1,194 active coronavirus positive cases with 4 deaths recorded so far, as per the latest announcement made by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
