Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi has inaugurated the world's longest highway tunnel - Atal Tunnel at Rohtang.
The PM was accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief General MM Naravane
The 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel will connect Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley.
"The Atal Tunnel will solve a major problem of connectivity in the region. It has several salient features and will further ‘Ease of Living’ for local citizens. Will also join public programmes in Sissu in Lahaul Spiti and at Solang Valley," posted Modi on Twitter.
Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway.
