India Appoints IFS Officer From Assam As Key Envoy to Taiwan

GUWAHATI: India has decided to appoint Gourangalal Das as envoy to Taiwan. Das who hails from Assam’s Barpeta is currently serving as Joint Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Das is an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1999 batch who topped High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in 1991 from Barpeta Government HS School and grabbed the second position in Higher Secondary examinations from Cotton College.

He went on to get a Bachelor's degree in economics from Stephen’s College in Delhi and has a master’s degree from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics. Das also served as a Deputy Secretary handling External Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office during the tenure of Manmohan Singh.

Further, the officer has also served as Counsellor (Political) at the Indian embassy in Washington DC where he played an important role during Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2017 when he met US President Donald Trump.
