GUWAHATI: The incessant rainfall since Monday night has made life difficult for the residents of Guwahati on Tuesday morning. There have been numerous reports of water logging and artificial floods from all around Guwahati. Also, a couple of landslide incidents have been reported. One landslide in the Boragaon area took the lives of four persons who were buried alive at their rented accommodation. The landslide destroyed the house completely and rescue operations are on. Two more incidents of landslides have been reported from Noonmati and Kharguli -- details are awaited.
Meanwhile, the main arterial roads of Guwahati have been flooded with reports of vehicles getting stuck in some areas. Many stretches of the main roads in Guwahati are also under. There seems to be helplessness among the residents of the city. People are still trying to get to work somehow. Many have returned back after seeing the water level at the roads. The B Barooah Road was completely under water when reports last came in. People are requesting their friend's dear ones on Social Media to avoid many roads. Flooding has been reported from Lachit Nagar, Rajgarh, Chandmari, Satgaon and other areas.
"I came back from the parking of our society after my friend messaged me that the B Barooah Road is under water. I have to cross that road to reach my office. He even sent me a few images of the stretch where water was overflowing from the footpath. I could not dare to start after seeing the images so I am waiting now at home for the water to subside. Will go to work maybe in the second half," said M Pandey who is a media executive and works in an agency near Sarania Hills.
