IIT Guwahati Signs MoU With NHM And TATA For Public Health Advancement

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has entered into a partnership with Tata Medical and Diagnostics Ltd. (Tata MD) and the National Health Mission, Assam, to launch an initiative aimed at enhancing public healthcare in Kamrup. The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 1.

The MoU signing event was attended by Keshab Mahanta, Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Science and Technology, Information and Technology Departments. Under the agreement, a Digital Nerve Centre (DiNC) will be established at IIT Guwahati's campus, serving as the command centre for the implementation of Tata MD’s healthcare model.

The DiNC will facilitate the deployment of advanced technologies to augment public healthcare delivery in Kamrup. The project is set to introduce a cloud-based patient registration system, pre-planned visit systems, Tata MD’s HealthX platform for progressive patient medical records, a centralised Concentric Data Repository (CDR) system, virtual consultation support, and a mobile-based DiNC application for healthcare workers, among other features.

A major highlight of the initiative is the involvement of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a partner. The foundation will contribute expertise, share learnings, and support the adaptation and implementation of innovative healthcare models. The insights gained from this project will be disseminated globally to ensure improved access to healthcare, particularly for women and children.

Additionally, IIT Guwahati will provide office space for the DiNC, managing its operations, and conducting research to drive technology-led innovation in the healthcare domain. The model introduces new layers such as network, platform, process, and people to enhance end-to-end care coordination services for patients while augmenting existing health programmes.
