IIT Guwahati Campus To Get Medical College

 

GUWAHATI: During his address at the inaugural ceremony of AIIMS Guwahati, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that a new medical college will be established inside the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati soon.

This medical college will be a step towards development as this will be a place where the doctors will work together with engineers towards innovation in the Healthcare sector.

“This medical college will have both doctors and engineers work towards innovation to make the healthcare sector in the state and the country self-sufficient and self-reliant,” said Assam CM.

Sarma also announced that every ration card holder in the state of Assam will be eligible to avail of financial aid for healthcare through Ayushman Bharat Schemes.

CM Sarma states that every ration card holder in the state will now be able to avail of a total amount of ₹5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat scheme for healthcare, annually.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Friday inaugurated the first AIIMS in Northeast India on Friday along with three other medical colleges in Assam, bringing the total number of medical colleges in Assam to thirteen.
