IAF Corporal From Arunachal Pradesh Among 26 Killed In Pahalgam Terror Attack

 

GUWAHATI: Corporal Tage Hailyang, 30, of the Indian Air Force, was among the 26 people killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Hailing from Tajang village in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, Hailyang was posted at the IAF base in Srinagar and had been visiting the popular tourist destination with his wife when gunmen opened fire on civilians. His mortal remains will be brought to Guwahati en route to Arunachal Pradesh.

The attack, one of the deadliest seen in the Kashmir Valley in recent times, unfolded on Sunday as the couple were on holiday. Hailyang died on the spot. His wife survived the incident. Authorities have identified all the deceased following postmortem examinations at the Government Medical College Hospital in Srinagar. The process of transporting the bodies to their respective states and countries is underway.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his condolences, writing on X: “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Corporal Tage Hailyang of the Indian Air Force, a brave son of Arunachal Pradesh who hailed from Tajang village in Lower Subansiri. While visiting Pahalgam with his wife, his life was cruelly taken in a senseless act of terror. He served the nation with courage and honour, and his untimely death is a great loss not only to his family but to the entire country. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, especially his wife who survived this horrific incident. May they find strength and solace in this unimaginable time of grief. We will always remember Corporal Hailyang for his service and sacrifice. Om Mani Padme Hum.”

In response to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting in New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior officials were present. The meeting examined the security lapse that led to the attack and reviewed ongoing investigations aimed at identifying the perpetrators and any supporting networks.
