GUWAHATI: A husband-wife duo was allegedly attacked by a student of Cotton University in Guwahati on Sunday night at around 10:30 PM near the Reserve Bank of India.
Speaking to GPlus, a police official of the Pan Bazar Police Station disclosed that the altercation took place as the couple was closing their shop. The couple witnessed two individuals who are alleged to be from Cotton University engage in a physical altercation with another individual.
The police official further said that the situation escalated when Ratul Talukdar (30), the husband intervened to stop the fight. Talukdar became a target of the assault by one of the students allegedly. Subsequently, when Ratul's wife attempted to intervene, she too was allegedly subjected to physical violence.
However, speaking to GPlus, the GS of Cotton University Students' Union offered a different narrative. He said, "Robbers attempted to enter the mess and were apprehended by our security guard, initiating the altercation. Unfortunately, in the midst of the scuffle, a woman was inadvertently caught up, leading to her being mistakenly thrashed. In an attempt to divert blame, an FIR has been filed against us by the parties involved."
