GUWAHATI: Family members of Jutika Basumatary, who died at the GNRC Hospital in Guwahati, were horrified to find someone else's body in their courtyard in lieu of the deceased patient, in an instance of flagrant medical mismanagement. This incident occurred in Assam's Darrang District at Bhaktapara. Both the family members and the villagers were shaken and alarmed by the incident.

According to reports,  the body was brought from the GNRC morgue located in Guwahati’s Amingaon.

According to the concerned authorities, the error occurred because the patient's family members declined to take one final look at the body and verify it.

While speaking to the media, the hospital authorities said the body of the deceased patient, Jutika Basumatary, has been sent along with her family.

According to reports, Jutika Basumatary, a patient at the GNRC Hospital in Amingaon, Guwahati, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 11 PM. She was from Bhaktapara in the Darrang district of Assam. The family members were shocked to discover the body of an unidentified man in her place when they brought the body from the hospital.

The family of the dead patient then notified the Bhakatpara Police, who arrived and made plans to return the actual body to its home.

Speaking to G Plus, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati, Mrinal Ali Hazarika refused to make any further comment on the matter but said, “Hospital authorities are conducting a detailed inquiry into the bungling of the incident.”
