GUWAHATI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, May 20 held a review meeting with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior government officials to discuss the current security scenario of the state.
The officials particularly discussed the preparedness of the government to handle any kind of situation that may arise after the publication of final National Register of Citizens (NRC) on July 31 this year.
The Home Minister took stock of the prevailing situation in the state where last week banned insurgent group ULFA had allegedly carried out a blast.

“A detailed review on the present security scenario in Assam has taken place. We have also discussed the possible situation that may arise after the publication of the final NRC on July 31,” Sonowal told reporters after the hour-long meeting.
Sonowal further added that the state government was extending all assistance for the NRC updating process and was committed to providing security to all citizens. “No genuine Indian should be worried about the outcome of the final NRC,” he said.

It must be noted that after the draft NRC publication on July 30, 2018, a huge controversy over the exclusion of 40.7 lakh people from it prevailed. The draft NRC includes the names of 2.9 crore people out of the total 3.29 crore applications.
Around 30 lakh of the 40.7 lakh people, left out of the draft of NRC, filed for the inclusion of their names in the document.
