GUWAHATI: A home guard lost his life after being hit by a crane at the under-construction flyover in Guwahati’s Bamunimaidam, in the late hours of Saturday, February 15.

The victim, identified as Padeshwar Kalita, was on duty at the flyover site when the accident took place. The crane, operated under the flyover project’s contractor, struck Kalita due to alleged negligence on the part of the driver. The reckless operation of the vehicle led to his untimely death.
Talking to GPlus, a senior police officer from Chandmari said, “It occurred late at night yesterday. The home guard had to lose his life after being hit by the crane.”
“It is unfortunate and we are taking further action,” she added.
Following the incident, Chandmari Police seized the crane and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. Further details are awaited.
