Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev Announces Retirement From BJP, Raises Serious Allegations

GUWAHATI: In what appears to be the first sign of a major rift in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) camp in Assam which has come out in the open, vocal leader, Shiladitya Dev, sitting MLA from Hojai constituency - known for making controversial statements - has levelled serious allegations against an unnamed top rung state party leader and said that due to groupism in the party he has decided to quit BJP.

Levelling serious allegations against a top party member without taking anybody’s name, Dev said that, "there is one person in the party who roams around with a bag and will destroy the BJP in Assam soon." He added that the person he is talking about has become so powerful that he can get anybody killed at any time and this has forced him to take the decision to retire from the party.

"I won’t resign, I will retire from the party,” said Dev who has the uncanny knack of occupying headlines with his controversial statements.

“I have called our party president six-seven times in the last one day. He has not picked up my phone. So I have whatsapped him my decision,” Dev said.

“The party leadership knows whom I am talking about. Even after that if they don’t take action then the party will suffer,” Dev said adding that the person he is talking about has become so powerful that he can get anybody killed anytime.
