Here's How India’s Political Leaders Remembered Late Tarun Gogoi

The former Chief Minister (CM) of Assam Tarun Gogoi, one of Assam's most celebrated and respected politicians, died at around 5:34 pm on 23rd November.

Following his death, different political leaders of the country offered condolences and memories of the deceased leader. 


Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi issued a statement after the death of the former Chief Minister (CM) of Assam, Tarun Gogoi wherein he expressed anguish at the demise of the former Congress leader.


"Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti," posted Narendra Modi on Twitter.
 


Home Minister of the country, Amit Shah too remembered the vibrant leader. 
 


Congress Member of Parliament (MP) and senior leader Rahul Gandhi called Gogoi "a true Congress leader." He further stated that "he devoted his life to bringing all the people and communities of Assam together. For me, he was a great and wise teacher. I loved and respected him deeply," Rahul Gandhi posted on Twitter.
 


Chief Ministers of other states such as Naveen Patnaik of Odisha paid his tributes for Gogoi. "He was very popular leader and will always be remembered for his commitment to the development of North East," Patnaik posted on Twitter. 
 


Tarun Gogoi's contributions were also highlighted in Northeast India. He has been credited with bringing stability and peace in the state of Assam. 


"People in rest of India may or may not know but the role of Tarun Gogoi in rebuilding Assam along with other leaders was key to the overall development of the northeast region," said Pradyot Manikya, Chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (T.I.P.R.A.)
