Guwahati witnesses Assam Bandh

GUWAHATI: Normal businesses of Guwahati city have been badly-hit by the 'Assam Bandh' called on October 23, by 46 organizations in Assam against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. 

The call was announced by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Asom Jatiyadabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Assam Minority Students Union (AMMSU) and several other organizations.

Most of the commercial markets and retail outlets across the stretches of A.T Road, G.S Road, H.B Road have been closed since Tuesday morning.

Petrol pumps in all the major locations of the city are closed. The fuel stations are expected to remain shut till 5 PM on Tuesday. 

However, denizens of Guwahati and adjourning areas are having a tough time commuting with limited transportation options as only State Transport vehicles are functioning. 

It could be seen that chemist stores are open in almost all parts of the city.

It is to be mentioned that essential commodities like the milk and vegetable markets are operating normally.

The police officials are deployed for security in every nook and corner for the safety of the citizens.
