GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) officials headed by Additional Commissioner Dwijen Singh, conducted an eviction drive in Hatigaon area on April 20.
The drive was conducted after the corporation received a complaint about selling of rotten and unhygienic meat, fish, egg and vegetables inside an electronics showroom near Rajdhani Mazjid.
The complaint was registered by the locals of the area after the smart phone showroom was found selling sub-standard items for the past week. Earlier, the people pf the area came together to throw away the rotten and foul-smelling items from the store.
Singh informed that the store did not have any trade license, and social distancing was also not being maintained while conducting business. Reportedly, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on the store.
GMC further extended the eviction drive in the nearby areas as many local fish, poultry and vegetable vendors had set up shop citing relaxation in lockdown rules as an excuse.
